What is a discussion texts?
A discussion text is a type of text that presents information about a particular issue, problem, or topic by showing different points of view.

The main characteristic of a discussion text is that it focuses on fairness and balance. Unlike persuasive texts, which only highlight one side to convince readers, discussion texts provide room for both sides to be heard.
This makes them very useful in academic settings, debates, social studies, and even media writing where an issue needs to be explained objectively.
For example, if the issue being discussed is whether online learning is better than traditional learning, a discussion text would present arguments that support online learning, such as flexibility and accessibility, as well as arguments against it, such as lack of interaction or technical problems.
Another important aspect of a discussion text is the language used. Typically, the text is written in a formal and objective tone. It often uses connectors like “on the other hand,” “however,” “in contrast,” and “similarly” to show the relationship between different ideas.
In addition, evidence such as facts, statistics, expert opinions, or real-life examples is usually included to strengthen the arguments presented. Without strong evidence, a discussion text may sound like a mere opinion rather than an informative and balanced piece of writing.
